Charlie Chaplin's "The Circus" (1928) - An Overview
The storyline within the film exhibits this. Chaplin’s tramp falls in like with Merna, who returns his affection. Then, a tightrope walker named Rex (played by Henry Bergman) will come on to the scene and Merna immediately falls in like with him. Why? Simply because his act is daring and hazardous whilst Chaplin’s clown act has fewer prestige.
